"Social Prescribing" is a concept of linking your people to community programs to address feelings of loneliness or social isolation to improve overall well-being!
The concept for healthcare professionals to link clients to community resources began in the UK during the 1980s-1990s. General practitioners recognized their workload had increased to address non-medical or social issues such as poverty and feelings of loneliness. Now, community leaders are on board!
Social workers, primary care physicians, therapists, PTs, OTs, STs, nurses, pharmacists, faith leaders, HR Departments, mental health professionals, counselors, psychiatrist, psychologists, and massage therapist.
You are in a unique position to recognize symptoms of loneliness and social isolation in your clients and connect them with community groups, activity-based classes such as art, gardening, exercise classes and even volunteer opportunities to improve over-all well-being!
